The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid is housed in the 18th century Palacio de Villahermosa. The Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza donated his collection to Madrid in 1993, and today the museum's has the most extensive private collection in the world with over 775 pieces, which range from 14th century paintings to 20th century sculpture. With such names as Renoir, Manet, Pisarro, Degas, Cezanne, and Matisse in the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist collection, and Hans Holbein, El Greco and such notables in the Old Master's, Madrid is understandably proud of this museum.
